About the project

This is a project that began over 2 years ago, when a friend of mine told me a simple story, with a powerful message, about a greedy king who wanted to own all the trees... but he realises that the earth does not belong to us, as we belong to the trees.
"You have to write it for children," he told me.
And so I did.

I began the rough sketches and the storyboard in Barcelona. The illustrations began to come to life when I was outdoors, with my water colours, in nature, with the trees and the sun.
I spent 2 months in incredible India, drawing and painting the illustrations while traveling, and completing many while volunteering on a permaculture and reforestation project (Sadhana Forest, in Auroville, near Pondicherry).
Later I continued my travels to Northern Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, where I fell in love with many, beautiful, wise and ancient trees.

As a teacher of English, Art and Early Learning, I wanted to make the book as simple and understandable as possible. Living in a bilingual world I also decided to make it accessable to more children and teachers by including the Spanish and English versions on the same page.
It has now become a learning aid- to be read by children and to children (by teachers, parents, siblings, etc)

I hope to self publish it by early 2013.
Then I plan to take it to schools in and around Barcelona, promoting bilingulism, creativity, literature and of course... the need to love and protect the trees that give us life!
